Language Arts

Language Arts 7th/8th:

The 7th/8th grade Common Core-based Language Arts will include instruction in four main areas: Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening, and Language. Students will read literature and informational texts. In Writing, students will focus on composing narrative, explanatory, argumentative, and research pieces. For Speaking and Listening, students will focus on comprehension, collaboration, and presentation of ideas. Language instruction includes further development of conventions: knowledge and use, and vocabulary acquisition and use.

Honors Language Arts 7th/ 8th:

This course extends the standard program of studies for Language Arts 7/8 as noted above. While including instruction in the four main areas of Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening, and Language, the honors class accelerates the curriculum and digs deeper as it enriches and extends student knowledge and skills with critical analysis, rigorously preparing students for success in future honors and AP courses. 

 *Students selecting this course should be ardent readers and exhibit fluent writing skills.
