Chamber Winds - Swirling Prisms
The inspiration behind this piece came from the abstract concept of optical prisms spinning freely in space while reflecting light in numerous directions.  The music depicts the bending, reflecting and dispersing of light into its component colors (the colors of the rainbow).  The composer took further inspiration from the Impressionism movement in art, which among other things, places emphasis on the changing characteristics of light.  This directly led into the overall Impressionistic quality of the music in that there is a strong focus on harmony, texture and orchestration.

Chamber Winds - Echoes in the Woods
The logging industry of northern Wisconsin faded away years ago, but echoes of that era remain today. This depiction of the large mechanized logging camps of that earlier time also reflects the quiet beauty of the forests and lakes in the region. Using an overture format and a strong sense of adventure, this work features exciting rhythmic passages contrasted with a flowing and lyrical middle section.

Wind Symphony - Twittering Machine
Inspired by the ambiguous 1922 artwork of Swiss-German painter Paul Klee, this dark piece depicts a powerful struggle between nature and machine. The haunting melody slowly transforms as the threatening machine around it grows, represented by a series of layered and varied percussion sounds.

Wind Ensemble - Der Erlkönig

This work is based on Johann Goethe's 18th-century poem of the same name in which a father and his young son ride home on horseback one dark and eerie night. This dark gothic tale is brought to life in this harrowing, fast-paced tone poem for band.
