All students entering the 7th grade will need proof of a Tdap booster shot before starting school. This requirement will be met by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) recommendation to receive one dose of Tdap vaccine on or after the 7th birthday. In order to insure a smooth transition into the 7th grade, please bring in your proof of a Tdap booster shot to the Health Office right away.

There has been some recent news coverage regarding measles outbreaks. There are currently no reported cases within Redondo Beach, but we want you to have this information available to you. Please read the attached information sheet from the Centers for Disease Control as well.
Measles has been confirmed in 59 California residents in 2015. Patients range in age from 7 months to 70 years. Vaccination status is documented for 34 of the 59 cases. Of these 34, 28 were unvaccinated (six of whom were infants too young to be vaccinated), 1 had received one dose and 5 had received two or more doses of MMR vaccine. Of the confirmed cases, 42 have been linked to Disneyland or Disney California Adventure Park in Anaheim, California. Initial exposures occurred in December, but additional confirmed cases visited Disney parks while infectious in January.
Measles is a highly contagious viral disease. It is widespread in many parts of the world, including Europe, Africa, and Asia. Measles begins with a fever that lasts for a couple of days, followed by a cough, runny nose, conjunctivitis (pink eye), and a rash. The rash typically appears first on the face, along the hairline, and behind the ears and then affects the rest of the body. Infected people are usually contagious from about 4 days before their rash starts to 4 days afterwards. Children routinely get their first dose of the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine at 12 months old or later. The second dose of MMR is usually administered before the child begins kindergarten but may be given one month or more after the first dose.
If your child is ill from school with any type of fever, please be on the lookout for symptoms of measles listed above and seek medical attention. Please inform the school nurse and health clerk staff about the illness. Finally, if your child is not vaccinated against measles, you may be putting other people at risk unnecessarily. Read the information on the attached sheet carefully and consider having your child vaccinated against all preventable diseases.
