Reflections Program

The PTA Reflections program is an annual arts contest encouraging TK-12 students to explore and be seen and heard through their creativity. The program invites participants to submit original works in the following categories:

Dance Choreography ~ Film Production ~ Literature ~ Music Composition ~ Photography ~ Visual Arts

Which one are you passionate about?

This year’s theme is Accepting Imperfections. Entries are judged based on their artistic merit, creativity, and theme interpretation - e.g. What does “Accepting Imperfections” mean to you? Winners at the school level can advance to council, district, state, and national levels, allowing young artists to be recognized and spotlight their talents.

New This Year!

All entries will be included in the Parras Virtual Reflections Gallery with select submissions to be displayed on campus. Additionally, all participants will be recognized at a PTSA meeting in the Spring! We look forward to celebrating your creativity!

Important Notes:

● Only new pieces of artwork inspired by the theme may be submitted. Each entry must be the original work of one student only. An adult may not alter the creative integrity of a student’s work. Because the program is designed to encourage and recognize each student’s individual creativity, help from an adult or collaboration with other students is not allowed except in the Accessible Arts Division. Only one student may be recognized as the award recipient for each entry.

● Rules by Category can be found here. Please disregard the Current Student Packet and Participant forms for each category. Entries will only be accepted through the Parras Entry Form. (Apologies for any confusion!)

● How Judging Works: Artworks are submitted first to school-level PTAs, where they are first recognized, celebrated, and judged by grade-level divisions, the Special Artists division celebrates student artists with special needs. School PTAs then choose a selection of entries to be considered by local PTA units, which are then sent to councils and districts for consideration. The final artworks submitted to California State PTA by districts are then considered for Outstanding Interpretation, Awards of Excellence, or Awards of Merit. Outstanding Interpretation and Award of Excellence entries then go on to represent California in the final National PTA judging round. The school-level Reflections Chair will notify participants of the outcome of the judging and inform award recipients about next steps.
